Coach Clay played for four years at Wofford, and had every role from starter, to middle, and late relief and is widely feared for his 95-97 mph fastball. In the 2021 season, Coach Clay went 5-0 with 3 saves, and holds the school record for the lowest ERA in a single season with 1.23. after 4 years at Wofford, Coach Clay was a graduate transfer to Xavier University where he was the closer and led the team to the 2023 Big East Championship title, and on to beating the host in the Vanderbilt Regional of the College World Series.
